Plas Gwynant (Hall of the white stream) is a mansion house that has been converted specifically to provide high quality residential outdoor education courses. The building is set in approx 20 acres of listed parkland that includes woodlands, fields and a stream, we use the grounds for a small number of our activities, more importantly our grounds provide an excellent space for young people to enjoy their freetime.
The building comfortably sleeps up to 50 students in 15 rooms. Many of the rooms are en-suite, with the biggest room sleeping 8 students. There are 2 distinct bedrooms areas, so it is relatively simple to have male and female students separated at different ends of the building or for 2 small schools to share. Bedding is provided and all rooms have wardrobes and drawers. Staff are accommodated in 4 en-suite staff rooms.
This is where students meet to start off each day. It is used as a class room and it’s where students complete their dairies. It is fully equipped with a digital projector, DVD and CD player and disco equipment. There is a drinks bar, making it an ideal space for settling groups before bedtime.
A student’s favourite. Our games room has table tennis, pool, table football, giant connect 4, soft seating and a stereo that CDs, MP3 players and IPods can be plugged into. This is an ideal place for students to relax in the evening, socialising with their friends or beating their teachers at pool!
There are a number of additional seating areas inside and outside of the building where students can seek peace or socialise. Students can borrow books, and a variety of games and balls for use in their freetime.
Our drying room allows students to wear dry clothing each day, through an efficient dehumidifier and plenty of racking as well as each student having their own drying area.
School staff can opt to run our shop for the visiting group. This is well stocked with snacks, drinks and souvenir items.
This is the hub of the centre for visiting staff and centre staff. Staff will spent some of their week in here in daily staff meetings, helping organise their course, relaxing, completing school blogs, reviewing the day. After a hard day’s activity visiting staff usually enjoy eating home made cakes, drinking tea and socialising with centre staff. There are comfy seats, a small kitchen area and internet facilities.
We have a good sized dining room where all students sit down for a cooked breakfast and a home made evening meal. Students make their own packed lunches, as often groups will spend their entire day away from the centre.
The catering team produce some wonderful home cooked wholesome meals, they are very proud of the food they provide and are able to cater for all specific dietary needs.
Each day, whilst the staff are enjoying tea and cakes in the staff room at the end of activities, students are provided with drinks and home made cookies in the dining room.
At Plas Gwynant we believe that it is imperative that students are properly kitted out for the activities they are undertaking. As such all students are issued a standard set of kit at the start of each course, for which each individual is responsible. Students are all issued a rucksack, waterproofs, a fleece, suitable footwear drinks bottle and a mug. Consequently students do not need to buy and specialist clothing or equipment for the course, all we ask students to bring are lots of warm old clothes, please see our kit list download for more details.
For individual activities, such as kayaking or rock climbing, we provide all the necessary specialist equipment.
